Triple Notch, McLean 2012

Technically a renovation, only the foundation of the original 1955 ranch house remains. Radiating out from there, we created a true estate.

Located only a few hundred yards from CIA headquarters in McLean, the garage/office wing of the L-shaped plan shields the house from traffic noises on busy Dolley Madison Boulevard. It is separated from the main house by a “dog run”, a traditional country breezeway which also serves as a mud room.

The owner, an antique aficianado, brought a lot of material to be incorporated into the design: salvaged barn wood, old windows from a New Hampshire church, light fixtures, cabinets, paintings, and flags.
