Sparkplug Shack, 2019

tiny structure does Double duty

Office by day, recording studio by night.

I designed this for my wife as the office for her private consulting business.

The cork-covered walls and sloped ceiling make for great acoustics while she is recording podcasts and video calls. The cork also allows for flexible backdrops.

Equipped with a triply-redundant HVAC system consisting of a mini-split heat pump, ambient floors, and electric fireplace, as well as casement windows located to catch prevailing breezes, it remains perfectly cozy all year long.

But that is only half the story.  After hours, I can slide the furniture aside and set up my instruments, amps and recording equipment.  The acoustics are…phenomenal.  I’ve even had a friend set up his drum kit. He had to stick to using brushes in the 150 square foot space, but it worked.
