Pandemic! 2020: Music to Quarantine By [track 9]

Guess who just got back today?

Them wild-eyed boys that have been away.

This may sound crazy, but one of the reasons I started playing the ukulele all those years ago was because I wanted to play this song.  I can’t explain why, but I thought it would be fun.  And indeed it is.

After running through the vocal for the fifth or sixth time, it occurred to me that I’ve never been to a place called Dino’s Bar and Grill.  I mean, it sounds like a great place, but why am I singing about it if I’ve never been there?  That’s when a different name slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it: the  best and last legit (and hopefully eternal) bar in north Arlingon, the Cowboy Cafe.

Coincidentally, the very next day as I was out taking my daily constitutional drive around town in defiance of Executive Orders 53 through 56,  I happened to see Amanda and Andrew, two of the great bartenders at the Cowboy Cafe walking down Lee Highway.  I did a probably illegal U-Turn to say hi.  Best five minutes of the week.

Back to the song.

Usually I do an acoustic version, but this project has been about playing with amps and pedals so this one is heavy on distortion.  Same old humble ukes, though.

This goes out to all the boys and gals at the Cowboy Cafe.  Looking forward to seeing y’all again soon — won’t be long til summer comes!

Man, we just fell about the place
