Trained at one of the best design schools in the country, supplemented by a certification in home inspection, and with over thirty years' experience, I can help you deduce the style and scale appropriate for your house, without breaking your budget.

It's your house to live in for years to come. Even if you can't articulate it or know how big a room should be, my job is to listen and transcribe your thoughts onto paper and offer suggestions that you may not have thought of. We work together.

Interviewing contractors, understanding bids & allowances, selecting fixtures and finishes can be an overwhelming learning curve for something you're likely to only ever do once. I am there to shepherd you through every stage.
Every house, site, and neighborhood is different. Whether you are renovating, adding on, or building new, you should expect more than a stock set of plans and details to reflect your needs and vision.
Working through the approvals process can be daunting and frustrating for homeowners. I know what each reviewer needs to see and can ensure you have a smooth process. If your project requires review by Historic, Zoning, or neighborhood boards, I will be by your side. (Haven't lost one yet!)
Even the best contractors will do things "the way they've always done it" without thinking through the implications. My job is to make sure they are building the vision we've outlined on paper. I can recommend several great g.c.'s I've worked with over the years if you need, but remember: if you are my client, I am YOUR independent agent.
We don't live the way folks did 80 years ago, when many of our homes were built-- there was a completely different attitude about which rooms should be large and small, and let's face it: they didn't have as much "stuff" as we do! That does not mean an addition on a 1950s Cape Cod has to look like a bloated cube. I believe one's neighbors should enjoy your house as much as you do.
A clean site allows possibilities, but sometimes bigger isn't always better. Instead of looking at it like a developer intent on maxxing out the allowable square footage, let's think about what your needs and desires are and look at it as an opportunity to make a quiet, but bold, statement.
Kitchens, porches, firepits: the spaces where people congregate. Private libraries, he-or-she sheds, fireplace inglenooks: retreats for contemplation. Although small in scope, these are among my favorite commissions, or parts of larger work.
I’ve been in the architecture profession for over 35 years, practicing, teaching, writing… but mostly practicing. I hope if I practice enough, one day I’ll get good.
