Whimsical craft

If you are familiar with Del Ray, you know the pride of place that governs.

The dining room & master suite addition on the rear had to work with the existing aesthetic, to be sure, and not overwhelm the remaining rear yard of the small lot. I am a big proponent of treating the rear façade with as much care as the front whenever possible.

That was not the biggest challenge here, however.  You see, the clients were both architects. Strong, differing opinions. Friends of mine.

Somehow this fool rushed in and came up with a design amenable to both– to all three of us, really– and we emerged with the proper touch of whimsy to guide this craft for another several decades, at least.

Note the porthole windows on the second floor. That is the master bathroom; the wife is a sailing enthusiast and thought it gave just the right touch to this house where every square inch was as thought out as nautical architecture tends to be.
