Kitchen and sunroom in North Arlington within existing footprint. The goal was to create a warm space that captures mid-day light. The cabinets are from IKEA, which resulted in tremendous savings compared to a typical similar project.
Raising the ceiling to the underside of the roof structure and cladding it in painted beadboard make this small footprint feel larger than it is without losing a sense of human scale. Existing steel ties were freshly painted in a warm tone that matches the palette below, while new structural rafter ties above are painted the same color as the ceiling so they provide interesting shadows without too much distraction.
