My favorite projects are the ones at the beach or in the country.  This one is in Rappahannock County, outside of  the town of (“Little”) Washington, Virginia.

A client who wanted to teach his son how to build a house asked me to finalize the plans he had bought online.

Although he is a skilled craftsman, handy with a hammer and saw, drawing is a little beyond his ken.

My official charge was to provide permit-ready drawings of the “boughten” design, but I could not help suggesting changes to design aspects I thought were deficient or inelegant: when dealing with just over 700 square feet, every inch matters. He agreed and appreciated the recommendations, and I modified the design accordingly– as well as fleshing out the details needed for County approval.

The permit was issued in early spring 2021, and work is proceeding in fits and starts as time allows.
